As you open the door to Wendy’s Joybeans and Bakery in Tyrone Pennsylvania you walk into an experience. It is a special place. The smell of hot coffee permeates the air and the smell of baked goods takes you back to those days of your Grandma’s kitchen. This bakery and coffee house is tastefully decorated and is a public gathering place for many in this Tyrone Pennsylvania community. I had the opportunity to know the original owners of Joybeans, Bill and Carol Andersen. Today Wendy Boytim has added ovens to create the bakery.

When I asked Wendy what her biggest challenge was in starting the bakery and coffee shop, she responded with the challenge most business owners struggle with and that is a challenge to understand what the customer wants. I would say she has been successful. She responded to her customers when they requested she make sandwiches for lunch and she listens to her customers when they need a particular baked good. Hearing her talk about her pies will make your mouth water, pina colada, chocolate peanutbutter, berry pies, fruit pies, and more. Wendy’s Chocolate Chip cookies are my favorite. I like to pride myself on being a chocolate chip connoisseur. The recipe, handed down from her grandmother, allows the cookie to stay chewy and moist, yum.

She got her love for baking from her grandmother who used to own a donut shop in Tyrone during World War II. Wendy lives and works in Tyrone. She has chosen to remain in Tyrone because of the people. “You know your neighbors and it is a friendly place” says Wendy.

Sweet spot

Great story -- the place looks good enough to eat!

Good Eats and Drinks

I am waiting for the Food Network to discover this business. Good place and if you are in Tyrone some day stop by for a sandwich and soup but save room for dessert. Joybeans also has a WiFi hotspot. So if you need to eat lunch, review email, and send out an e-fax this is the place to do that work.

don't waste the calories...

...on mere sandwiches, etc.  jsut buy the cookies, they are absolutely to die for, and their coffee is some of the best around here.  i go there during my dd's dance class across the street....and try to resist the choc chips, but they are too good to not have!!!

highly recommended...cute place...nice asset for Tyrone!!
