It May Sound Strange, but it's So Much Fun

HELP WANTED: SEEKING FUN, ENERGETIC, HAPPY, SMILING VOLUNTEERS!

NATIONAL SQUARE DANCE MONTH IS SEPTEMBER AND WE HAVE OUR GET TOGETHERS ON THURSDAY EVENINGS.

With our square dancing activity declining these days, some of us callers are looking for some fun, creative outlets to get people involved.  Some may have read the article I wrote several months ago about the Tractor Square Dancers and other creatvie marketing tactics. http://www.storytrax.com/node/561

The 3 variations of square dancing that I am working on, and finding some very energetic audiences are Square Dancing in wheelchairs, square dancing on horseback and my personal favorite, for the special olympics dancers.  I will hopefully post some footage from these events, but wanted to let you know that they are not my original ideas.  They have been around for awhile.  I just like to add my personal touch.

For example, there are wheelchair clubs where the rider operates his own chair.  The ones I call for have a driver maneuvering the rider.  And, the horseback riding is generally done with 8 dancers on 8 horses.  I work with a group called HIGH HOPES http://www.highhopesinc.com/, a therapeutic horseback riding club.  There are 4 horses with 4 riders, with a guide in front and 2 spotters on both sides.

Here's a shot of the riders listening to instructions of the certain calls I was teaching.

Check out the still shots and some websites. It sounds crazy, but it's a lot of fun to do and watch.

Lots of demonstration groups performing at farm shows and rodeos http://www.angelfire.com/ca5/gallopinggossips/

Going into the nursing centers is one of my favorites, and interacting with intergenerational programs is very well received http://home.comcast.net/~blowther01/slvrspnr.htm

The awards are great from all of these groups http://www.ushandicapable.org/

I am constantly looking for fun, energetic volunteers for all 3 of my programs. If you are interested, please drop me a line at steamerk4@yahoo.com
