A story to boost faith
Location(s)
Erin has asked for stories of faith. Well . . . I had an experience that will make you think twice about how and why things happen. Do we even know . . . ?
We were a young family, two hardworking parents and five little birds in the nest. Needless to say, we went through a lot of milk; we had to buy a gallon of milk almost every day! Bill was a schoolteacher, and I was a secretary, and the timeframe was about 1981.
One cool fall evening we needed milk and we had no money for it! Bill had just enough money for gas to get him to work the rest of the week. What were we to do? Dejectedly I went down to our garage to find some old pop bottles I could redeem. Do you remember when pop bottles were made of glass, and were redeemed for a nickel or a dime when returned to the store? Well, I gathered up what I could find, put them into a brown grocery bag, and began the short walk to our neighborhood grocery store. In the driveway something caught my eye, and when I bent down to pick it up I was in awe . . . it was two $20 bills folded together! This was a literal fortune to me at the time.
I went into the house, and we called all of the neighbors to see if they had lost any money - no one had. We called the paperboy; even though we couldn't afford the daily newspaper, he cut through our property on his rounds. We thought perhaps he had been collecting payments that day and had lost some money. His response was negative!
And so we took it as a blessing. I was able to get the milk and some other necessities, and we have lived happily ever after. I cannot remember a time after that when we ran so close to the bone. And as our fortunes have turned, we have strived to assist in quiet ways those less fortunate.
Amen :-)

The best momma ever
I remember you telling me this story when I was littler. I always get chills when I remember it. You were the best momma, always providing exactly what we needed. You know what? I think we turned out better precisely because we knew what it was like to have "just enough" and not be spoiled. You made us what we are today. You rock! Love you forever and then some, Rachel
it's true
it is true that God provides when you think things cna't get worse. Let Go and Let God....not always easy. I truly beleive in the fact i have a Guardian Angel, who has been super busy in my life keeping my keister out of one scrape or another.
it's nice of you to pay it forward as well.
I Agree
Reminds me of a story I heard. A gentlemen was traveling home from work and felt this overpowering need to buy two gallons of milk and deliver it to a particular house he drove by everyday. He ignored the calling. So he continued his trip home feeling bad about not answering the call. He turned around pulled into a convenience store, bought the milk and some other supplies and drove to the house. As he pulled up in the driveway, he began to doubt this was the right move. He decided that he should go up to the door and knock and leave the supplies. As he approached the door, a woman open the door. There were kids crying and she looked tired, worried, and she looked like she had been crying. When he presented the groceries, she cried. She cried because earlier she had knelt down and asked God for help. She and her husband had very little money and could not buy groceries. She had prayed that God could provide enough money to buy 2 gallons of milk. While that helped this woman's faith, it helped the faith of that young man driving home. For he had prayed to God on the drive home. He had prayed that God would give him a sign that God did exist. True story.
God knows what we need.
