Anyone who watches the evening news and hears the reports of All Terrain Vehicle [ATV] accidents knows that the need for ATV safety training is great.
It is hard to understand how riders, both young and old, and all experience levels, can hear about the accidents and not make riding safety a high priority for themselves and their fellow riders.
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and ATV Traction are doing their part to train the trainers who will spread the message to thousands of riders
A recent training session took place at The Green Roof Inn just west of Erie, Pennsylvania. The entire course took place at the motel. The classroom session took place in a pavilion attached to the motel and the riding instruction on a grassy area adjacent to the "classroom." Instructors helped committed volunteer to get the necessary training, teaching skills, and information required to become certified safety instructors.
Regardless of your riding experience or skill level, being responsible, using common sense, and practicing safety skills are all important ingredients in making ATV riding more rewarding.
