The Front Porch

The Crawford family has enjoyed sitting on the front porch for as long as the house has stood, which is over 130 years. Uncle Foster once told me he and his family, who lived in the house, use to sit on the front porch and watch people go down the road. This must have been a big thing when cars started to drive down the road.

Today my wife, son and I carry on that tradition. We sit on the front porch, watch the sunset, and people. Lately we have seen new traffic on the road, ducks. Every evening a flock of ducks waddles down the road and jumps into the creek on my father-in-laws property. Like clock work they make there way to the destination. When I followed them or a car drives by they get off the road but never fly away. Strange behavior from these feathered friends.

I love the front porch lifestyle. When the day is over and the work is done. There is no better place than to sit on the front porch and wave at neighbors, watch the wildlife, and spend time as family. I think of those who sat on the very step I sit on and wonder how the view has changed in 131 years.

Great post

It is nice to slow down life and enjoy simple pleasures.  Thanks for the duck video clip - they waddle with purpose and a destination in mind.

We have a porch swing that faces the pond across the road and from that vantage point we watch the day turn to night.  The bird sounds end and the bats appear from nowhere as the porch light concentrates a cloud of insects.

The lightning bugs [PA State insect] are joining the show too.

Praise the Lord for His goodness to us!
