Jess237 recommended watching trains at Garfield Park in Altoona Pennsylvania. I am quite familiar with the Park. It was the place where my buddy Cory and would play tennis. I never knew about the trains or the great spots to watch trains from Garfield Park but it turns out there are quite a few nice train watching locations.

The park itself is in bad need of repairs. I was quite disappointed with the trash, tall grass, graffiti, and the shape of the amphitheater. It was disappointing to see the Garfield Park and Gospel Hill Park in such a bad way. I sat in the park and thought it would be nice if we had an Adopt a Park program similar to what Penn DOT has for the highway system across the state. As I was once told you want to know how the town feels about itself visit its parks.

All of that said, there is a trail that runs along side Garfield park and down to the train tracks. You can walk the trail and find places to stand on the bank and watch trains. The bank is all shale so I would watch yourself and make sure you do not fall but you get some great footage of trains heading in and out of Altoona.

I hope you enjoy the footage I shot on location. They were fun to make. To better understand where the park is located click on the Google Maps link above.

Steamer approved!

That was a blast!  I never thought watching the trains go by would make me feel like a kid again.  I suggest more people do it.  So many of us take for granted what we have in our backyard.  I had a buddy visit me from Chicago a few years ago, and he went to a web site that said 100 THINGS TO DO IN BLAIR COUNTY.   I thought besides eating at Tom & Joe's, what else was there to do?  If you like history, culture, geography, geology and stories, you could have lots of fun things to do in our neck of the woods.

When the visiting team's ball players come to play the Curve, they think Lakemont is a blast!  Wow! A ball park, amusement park and a hockey rink all within a block or two!  Lots to do in Lakemont.

Loved the sound track!

You picked the perfect music! But just were was that banjo picker hiding? Didn't see him in the video.

Nice shots of the signal bridge, too. It's rare to get that kind of a view of one.
