Something New

I've decided finally to jump into what it seems so many are doing now- blogging.  I've got to admit not sure how it will continue as I sit with a three year old on my lap slamming batteries on the desk.  Course the others are watching a Spanish video so maybe they will get fluent in a foreign language as I learn something new too!!

I've always bought into the "everyone has a story to tell" pretty easily.  (Comes with being a Cooley I think!)

But, nothing brought "stories" home to me more than the thought of what story my children will tell someday.  How wonderful it is to be able to give them my story, to give them a history of success and failure, to pass on who I am and from where I come.  I'm tempted to leave out all that failure stuff- too bad they learn from it!!!!  I just want a chance to see 40-50 years down the road at what their stories will be.  It would sure help the parenting if I knew what it was they were going to have to face.  It would help the home schooling if I knew what areas to focus on for which child.  It would help my sanity to know that the traits that are driving me insane right now are the very same traits that will serve them well in the future.  Anyone that knows my 3 year old, AJ, can sympathize there!!!

Well, lots of rambling I think- but I know it comes down to trusting their Creator with them.  I know God has their plans.  He will guide them.  My prayer right now is obviously for wisdom, patience, kindness, and peace---  but moreso that he would work and succeed in spite of me.  -- That he would get me out of the way when I want to take control.

Well, Spanish video is over and naps and school must start again.

Like Pam said, I am hoping that my kids' stubbornness now will serve them well to resist peer pressure in the future!  If so, then I will be AOK!!

Strong wills

When my deaf daughter was three,  her seasoned school teacher told me not to worry, her stubborness and strong will drive me crazy but will serve her well in life.  Megan is now 21 and the sky's the limit for her.  At 18 her freshman year was at a college in NC.  By sophomore year she had transferred to Gallaudet University in Washington DC.  She convinced them to accept all her credits. She'll be graduating this December, 1 semester early.  She just came back from a trip to Germany.  She buys plane tickets and goes anywhere the wind takes her.  She arranged a summer internship leading to a full time job after graduation.

I just sit back and watch her life unfold.  She knows what she wants and goes after it.  My frustration with toddler Megan has long been replaced with pride for the wonderful young woman she has become.  In 18 years, my story will be your story.
