Chocolate Museum in Cologne - Copied from my Extra Credit assignment for German class ^_^
The Schokoladen museum is located in
The museum part had fantastic in-depth information on where one can find cocoa beans, the processing of cocoa beans into powder, and turning powder into chocolate. They have a section on chocolate history and all kinds of
They have a separate part of the museum where it is so tropical that once you walk in your glasses will fog up and you will begin sweating like a pig (well, technically pigs don’t sweat but that’s how the saying goes). They grow cocoa beans there and the temperature has to be at an exact temperature for the beans to grow properly. I never realized cocoa beans were bigger than my hands.
On to the factory part of the building, you could see the powder be boiled into chocolate ‘pudding’ then be processed into chocolate bars. I took pictures of every step (except the boiling part) and my friend made a video out of it. There was a worker there collecting wrapped bars and putting them in a bag and boxes of those bags are transported to the museum’s store for sale. **Spoiler Alert for my family in Ohio** I couldn’t leave the place without buying a bag of chocolates I saw be made – I purchased about 40 dollars worth of chocolate. Of course, not all of them were for me; they were also for my family – for Easter (I'll make sure they share!).
On a separate note - I'll try to post about the other places I saw in Germany sometime soon.

The chocolate is delicious! As a moral and financial sponser of my daughter's 'Spring Break field trip to Germany' I can attest to how sweet it is. Easter is only tomorrow but today is preview Saturday.
Missed you all for Easter
I guess we'll just have to take your word for it!
We missed you all yesterday in the annual invasion of Mom and Dad's. Mom made a great ham, Bridget made potato salad and cucumber pasta salad, Cindy/Steve/Joe/Jenna collaborated on the green bean casserole and Joey and Jenna partnered up to make a really awesome Easter bunny cake that even Grandpa liked! We did get the Easter egg hunt going, but there wasn't much challenge for the kids -- they just followed the tracks in the snow to the eggs. And get this - Grandma and Jenna colored 90 eggs! Everybody got eggs to bring home.
So, the NEXT party's at your house, eh? Keep us up to date on the graduation plans.

Si, mi casa es su casa. At this time we're thinking Saturday, June 9. His actual graduation is Sunday June 10 at 1 PM. Anyone who wants to be a part of that can come to Ohio Stadium. Remember with Meg along we will get great seats, at least she will. Lots of time they have room and they let us stay as a group.
We are also thinking of getting hotel rooms in Ashland and having the party at the farm. It takes an hour off your trip and would't it make a memory seeing all of our blackened peach trees. If any have survived they will be worth their weight in gold.
Das Stimmt!
This sounds better than CHOCOLATE WORLD at Hershey Park!

Hershey Factory
Some of us are old enough to remember when you could actually tour the factory in Hershey. I'm not sure when they stopped that, and did the Chocolate World tour, but at one time they did actually give tours of the factory. I think it was about 35-40 years ago when I toured the factory.
Its Like Willy Wonka
A chocolate foundation??? Oh man. I have images of Hansel and Gretel and Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. What a great experience. Even to take a factory tour these days is amazing. Most factories do not allow them because of the insurance issues. What a great time you must have had. Did you get a chance to visit Bavaria?

Exactly!! Willy Wonka's
Exactly!! Willy Wonka's little workers! ^_^
It's a small factory - All of the machines are guarded with plexiglas.
Didn't get to visit Bavaria but I got as close as I could when I was in Königswinter.

Yum!
That's my kind of trip! Because it's a museum, you can feel good because you were doing something "educational," but because it's chocolate, well, what can I say; there just isn't anything better!
Can't wait to hear more about your trip. Maybe you could also plot them on the StoryTrax Mapper so we can all see where you went?
