MR. ROGERS GOES TO WASHINGTON
March 5, 2007 - 9:29am — Corys_Stories
In 1969, the US Senate had a hearing on funding the proposed Corporation for Public Broadcasting, but President Nixon wanted it cut in half for the Vietnam War. Sometimes nice guys do win.
That was taken right from youtube.com. I first saw this clip when I attended Mr. Rogers Memorial Service in May of 2003 at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, and I must tell you, I had tears of joy rolling down my face. Watch how a pitbull of a Senator turns into a pussycat right before your very eyes. This is one of the best video clips of Mr. Rogers' true self in action standing up for what he believes is right. He always put everyone else first, especially the children. PLEASE WATCH ENTIRE CLIP, IT IS TRULY REMARKABLE.
The poem Fred reads in this clip was actually made into a song by Mr. Rogers himself, called WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THE MAD THAT YOU FEEL. That song was sung by Fred many times on Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. You can read more about Fred's ideals and goals at www.fci.org Which is Family Communications Inc. Fred's company in Pittsburgh.
I can't believe it's been 4 years since his passing just this past February 27th. The last I saw him was in State College, he was the keynote speaker at an event with WPSX. That's where he met my Gramma Kitty. When I introduced them to each other Fred said to Kitty, " Cory's told me so much about you. You are his hero. " and gramma said to Fred, "Cory's told me so much about YOU. You are his hero. "
Jack Servello went with me, and coming soon to Storytrax will be Jack's fantastic song he wrote for Fred well over 10 years ago, called THANK YOU MR. ROGERS, MY NEIGHBOR THERE FOR ME. We are working on making it into a video montage.

Mr Rogers on Washington
What a remarkable clip! Id never seen or heard of it before.
Now that I am a parent I relate to his vision so much more. I really wish TV like Simpsons or Spongebob could either be cleaned up or replaced with something decent. Kids are kids for so little, and the media influence is a large part of that.
