ART FUNSHOPS ARE A LOT OF FUN!
The first round of Art Funshops, coming to ya live from the home based studio, is going very well. I advertised lightly in the church bulletins, libraries and local nearby schools. I opened them up for 2 days, so I could narrow the groups down to smaller sizes for more individual attention, and I love it! No more than 4 per session, and I will have number 15 signed up today.
Funny thing, I posted 2 signs in my front yard, down near the street just so the sign ups could find the right house and had 2 sign ups with those signs. I would like to post them again, but don't know if I want many more right now. Perhaps in the spring and summer when the sessions will be on an abbreviated schedule. Since I work for 2 baseball teams, and April thru August is crunch time, my 4 art funshops a month may, and I say MAY go down to twice a month. This is good for the art students too, just in case of vacations and other summer festivities that may arise.
I generally do not have art sessions in the winter, mainly just in the spring and fall. Thought I'd try something different. I've always had them running between 6-8 weeks at a time. And, I always tag on an extra 'make up' day FREEBIE, for those students who may have missed a session. The parents have always remarked kindly on the 'make up' days in the past and almost always signed the artists back up for more Art Funshops.
The other thing I may try for the summer round, and this may be tricky, since kids today are involved in so many activiites, is to run the art classes in the late morning and early afternoon, instead of my already late afternoon and early evening. It sounds good, but once you get kids on a routined day and time, it can be difficult to change with parent's scheduling. But, instead of 4pm-8pm, watch for the Art Funshops to run 10am-2pm. Maybe and perhaps, we'll see.
Thanks to my buddies Randy and Erin for putting up the cork board all around the art studio. Now, I can display the student's artwork.
