Winter thoughts of a summer garden.
Now is the time of year when the incoming flood of seed catalogs makes my blood start to pump. Time to plan for this springs' flowers and veggies is at hand. I usually find a cozy place with good light and a warm 'blankie' to sit and pour over the multitude of mailings. I think about all of the flowers and veggies I will plant. I contemplate with graph paper in hand where they will do their very best. I consider sunlight and soil and colors and curb appeal until I'm exhausted. When I go to bed that night I toss and turn, thinking about mulching and mowing and moving plants. When sleep finally comes, my dreams are all about growing gigantic vegetables and award winning flowers and the evil, nasty insects that threaten my beloved little darlings. I awake more tired than if I double dug my entire vegetable bed. To relieve some of the pent up anxiety, I find myself buying some forlorn plant at the grocery store, or planting the seeds from my breakfast orange. It is truly pitiful! "Someday I will have a greenhouse", I tell myself, "then I won't have to go through this every winter". I can only imagine the nightmares I will endure when that day comes.

me too!
i'm a pretty huge amateur gardener but love getting the old hands dirty come spring and summer! Have you ever forced bulbs? I did last year, but all I got was leaves, no flowers (stupid tulips) butit did sort of take away some of the 'dirt fever' hahaha.
forcing bulbs
Starting bulbs can be tricky. You need tons of light for them to bloom. Tulips are probably the hardest to get to bloom. Try hyacinths or daffodils the scent really fills the room. Also make sure you have fresh bulbs. You can do it with Amaryllis pretty easily too. Last year I just left some spent bulbs in my basement under a grow light and forgot all about them....no water no nothin'. I happened to check on them months later only to see bunches of dead blooms that I totally missed! What a bummer.
