I've been recording singing call records for nearly 12 years.  My first singer was on Chicago Country records with Erin Cooley back in 1995.  Oh, what a trip that was!  Stopping in Notre Dame was the highlight of that adventure for me.  We recorded a Cha Cha song called HONEST TO GOODNESS, AMIGOS and had a blast doing it.  I've recorded on another label called Desert Records from out near Cincy, OH.  But the most fun I've had is with the current label I've been with for about 10 years, Silver Sounds Records.

Recently, I had the honor to record on vinyl PLAYIN' WITH MY FRIENDS. Originally done by Tony Bennett, Ray Charles, BB King, KD Lang, Sheryl Crow, Natalie Cole, Kay Starr and Billy Joel.  This jazzy R&B tune would be great to record with some of the big names in square dance calling.  So, I called up some of my friends and they all kindly agreed to record the song with me. 

It was the best birthday present I could get.  Tim Crawford ( Canada ), Bill Harrison ( Maryland ), Tim Marriner ( North Carolina, but then Georgia ) and of course, Tom Miller ( Pennsylvania ). The interesting thing was we recorded in at a square dance festival called Dutch Treat Weekend in Lancaster, Pa.  We actually recorded it in a hotel room.  Jack O'Leary, the producer of Silver Sounds, supplied the keyboards and then my buddy Jack Servello added his guitar track, and brought his portable sound studio to eastern Pennsylvania.

What was really impressive was Bill Harrison wasn't able to make the weekend, and just a few days later made a special trip to Altoona just to lay his voice down for this record. How great. By the way, all 4 of these big shots are really cool and down to earth guys.  And, they are all on the Board of Governors with Callerlab.

I will be forever grateful to all of these dudes for helping me with this record, which did fairly well in the ratings. I am especially thankful to producers Elmer Sheffield of ESP Records, Tony Oxendine of Royal Records and Tom Dillander of Chaparral Records for allowing their talented staff to record this singing call with me.  Jack O' Leary deserves a round of applause also for letting me to be the Executive Producer of this record.  Thanks fellas! There is an inside joke with this song and me.  The lyrics talk about 3 of my favorite things; FOOD, FRIENDS AND BOOZE.  If you know anything about me, you know these 3 things always go together. And, not in any particular order.
