BEHIND THE BLUFFS 7 ( A Little Help from my Friends )
When I get with some of my buddies who like to write and appreciate history, it's great. Most of them are writing blogs at Storytrax now. I've gotten some ideas from some of their ideas. Like this first one, came from the mind of Erin Cooley. He suggested something like 'why are they never smiling in the historic paintings or early photographs?' I told him because the portraits took days to paint and the photo shoots took hours...who'd be smiling? I'd be crossing my eyes and my legs. And, this one with the artists popped into my head.
This Ben Franklin cartoon came from my good friend Tom Miller. He does a funny impersonation of Ben, and said this line in a joke and I loved it.
The Old Navy one came from a dear friend Duane Koehlle. He used to be in the Navy and he jokingly said this line in a story he was telling and I knew I had to use it somewhere. How about this? At the Comics Sherpa site at GoComics, they post a cartoon of the day, and this one was a winner one day.
Cooley and I used to sing THE BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS ballad all the time when we were kids, and for some reason I was listening to Ray Stevens parody to this traditional song, and came up with this no brainer.
Sometimes watching reruns of The Waltons and Little House when you're sedated on NyQuill can have humorous side effects.
Thanks for asking to put more HISTORY BLUFFS back on with stories and thanks for the great ideas. Cuzzin' Mike, SNAKES ON A WAGON TRAIN, will be posted soon.
