Don't Toss Out Those Eggs

After spending hours preparing and coloring eggs it seems wasteful to throw those eggs away. I am sure people would appreciate a new recipe for the use of those hardboiled eggs. read alert

Fishless In Erie

No early start today. I decided to wait until noon before venturing out and then I manned my post until 5 p.m.

I fished the same holes at the Walnut Creek channel and used the same baits [pink

egg sacs, jig/maggot and minnows] that I used yesterday with little success. I managed to hook one fish on a pink egg sac and I lost the fish at the hole after a short fight.

Rich from Indiana caught one. Frank from McKeesport [I think] caught one – this guy is a “jig-a-holic” and always seems to catch fish.

A few locals who came early a.m. went home with several.  I  also saw one fish landed in the Marina basin.

When one of the other Ice Maniacs hooked a fish, we all gathered around to share the catch. I caught a video clip.  Click to see what you missed.

On a slow day, every fish hooked is a reason to celebrate.

I took a picture of the Walnut Creek project holes and up stream toward the Manchester Bridge.    As you will see there is very little open water in the streams.

The rest of the day was spent shooting the breeze with the other guys on the ice and contemplating the mysteries of the universe.

I also gave some serious thought to my mental and physical condition and concluded that I am in fine mental health and suffering from mild hypothermia.

The temperature soared into the twenties and the sky cleared after a stiff west wind kept the lake shrouded in white-out conditions. Toward evening the wind died and you could see the ice dunes and lake ice again.

At sunset the skies were clear and cloudless. I bet it will be plenty cold tonight.

A move to Misery Bay for some slab Bluegill action is looking better each day. Perhaps Saturday, if the temperatures continue to climb and the memory of using my spud bar to cut holes has faded, I may just try to catch a bucketful of Panfish.

FYI - Others have said that the gravel pit is producing brown trout.

I am stuck in a western Erie rut and need to explore the eastside more. I have been told that 16-Mile usually has open water even in the coldest weather.
