oriental fishing
Fishing Lake Erie in Fairview PA in the lake also know as the mouth of Trout run. Mark, Mac and myself were having an incrediable day cathing and releasing steelhead trout. The lake was busy that beautful fall day as all anglers were standing sie by side knee deep in water 10 yards from the beach dressed in thier own style of fishing outfits , waiting for the moment to yell FISH ON.
I was the first of three in our party fishing on the left side standing on a very rocky lake bottom. Standing beside me was an oriental man in his late 40's. He was catching fish but keeping his fish on a stringer to take home. His style of reeling in the fish was not "standard" to most fisherman. His drag was very loose, rod and reel were a bit to large and the water was up to the top of his thighs meaning he was a smaller man. When, for the sake of a better name we will call the oriental man Kayo, Kayo would hook into a fish and yell ,"fish on" , he would walk back and forth to make sure he would beach the fish he caught because for some strange reason he had no fishing net.
The last fish Kayo hooked into, as he did his unussual back and forth movement to land a fish , he ran into a problem. While walking forward on the rocky lake bottom he fell face first into the water. I was standing a few feet in front of Kayo - I saw the fright in his face , the clutching of both hands to his fishing rod and reel , I simply told him to stand up. I guess a fear factor was inside him as he never acknowledged any of my advise. The fish pulled Kayo out toward the lake and as he started getting closer to me I just reached down ,grabed him by the top his neoprene fishing waders , pulled him out of the water to place him on his feet. Kayo still was holding on to that fishing rod. Then I heard Mark yell at me in a very loud smiling voice " looks like you caught a state record oriental fish". You would have thought it was the comedy club as all the anglers busted out in laughter.
