APRR: Short Level

At a little more than a tenth of a mile long, the level between the foot of Plane 6 and the head of Plane 7 was a quick trip on the Allegheny Portage Railroad. Not surprisingly, there is little known historical documentation of the “Short Level,” as it was known. This feature was destroyed by the construction of the eastbound (downhill) lanes of the William Penn Highway (old Route 22).
