Missing winter . . . NOT!
Several people have commented to me lately that they're missing winter -- where's the snow and cold? Here in central PA we're enjoying yet another week of above normal temperatures and sunshine. We had a brief dusting of snow about a month ago, but that's been it so far. Actually, here near Williamsburg, PA, it's been more than a year since we've had measurable and disrupting snow. All those snow shovels and snow blowers are standing ready by the back door, along with buckets of sand and salt, but we haven't needed them yet. Instead, the bikes are still out, and people are enjoying brisk walks along the Lower Trail, a local Rails-to-Trails project.
There's some justifiable concern about long-term replenishment of ground water. I do enjoy being snowed in every once in a while, when I don't have to be somewhere else. There's nothing like simmering a big pot o' somethin' on the stove all day as you watch the snow pile up from your warm, well-lighted place. But for now I'm willing to sacrifice that splendid nesting feeling for another sunny day!
Bulbs planted last October were confused by the warm weather anc came up early.

Global Warming
As I have been watching local and national weather programs it appears that the explanation can be linked to El Nino and Global warming. Thoughts?
I can say I have not gotten any bulbs popping out but I can only imagine it will be soon.

No snow
Our daffodils have emerged, in a misguided notion of spring! The weatherman on this morning's radio program read some excerpts from an 1820s record that reported peach trees in full blossom during a snow-less winter. Anne H.
