Amazing bridge: Wyoming County, Pennsylvania

Location(s)

Wyoming County
Tunkhannock, PA
See map: Google Maps

Wyoming County was formed on April 4, 1842 out of Luzerne County. The name, honoring the Wyoming Valley, is derived from an Indian word meaning "extensive meadows." The county seat, Tunkhannock, was settled in 1790 and incorporated in 1841. During the Revolutionary War, General Sullivan's March passed through in August 1779 on its way to the Iroquois country of southern New York state. The Nicholson Viaduct, a marvel of railroad engineering, is still in use.
