Warren, PAWarren County, PA was formed March 12, 1800 from Allegheny and Lycoming counties. It was named for General Joseph Warren, killed at Bunker Hill during the Revolutionary War. Warren, the county seat, was laid out in 1795. Located along the Allegheny River, the Kinzua Dam and Allegheny Lake provide flood protection for towns all the way to Pittsburgh. The construction of this reservoir created controversy in the 1960s as it impacted the lands of the Seneca, specifically, the Cornplanter Grant. The economy today is supported by oil and gas exploration and production, lumbering, and recreation.
