Susquehanna County, PA was formed on February 21, 1810 out of Luzerne County. It is named for Susquehanna River. In the mid-19th century, local Congressman Galusha A. Grow sponsored the Homestead Act of 1862 which led to the expansion of the American West. Montrose, the county seat, was incorporated in 1824 and was an early Abolitionist center and stop on the Underground Railroad.
