Easton, PANorthampton County, PA was formed on March 11, 1752 out of Bucks County and was named for Northamptonshire in England. Easton, the county seat, was incorporated in 1789. A major manufacturing center, the county is noted as a leading center for the steel industry as well as for cement and slate production. In the 18th century, Moravian missionaries from this area were responsible for bringing Christianity to many American Indian groups along the Pennsylvania frontier.
