Danville, PAMontour County, PA was formed on May 2, 1850 from Columbia County. Named for the Indian woman leader, Madame Montour. Within the county, "T-rails," the form of rails still used today, were first produced. The inventor of the typewriter, Christopher Sholes, was born here. The county seat, Danville, was incorporated 1849.
