Lycoming County, PA was formed on April 13, 1795 out of Northumberland County. The name (from a Delaware Indian word) honors Lycoming Creek. Williamsport, the county seat, became a borough in 1806 and a city in 1866. Located along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in a great forest, it became an important lumbering center in the 19th and 20th centuries.  Also known as the birthplace of Little League Baseball, the Little League World Series, a true "world" series, attracts players and fans from around the world when it is played at the end of each summer in Williamsport.
