Brookville, PAJefferson County, PA was formed on March 26, 1804 out of Lycoming County and named for President Thomas Jefferson. Located along the headwaters of the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, it was noted for its coal and lumber industries. Brookville, the county seat, was incorporated 1834, and is home to the Jefferson County History Center. Nearby Punxsutawney is the home of the world-famous weather predicting groundhog.
