Delaware County, PA was formed on September 26, 1789 out of Chester County. It is named for the Delaware River which flows through it. In 1682, William Penn first entered what would become the present Commonwealth of Pennsylvania here. The Old Chester Courthouse (1724) is one of America's early public buildings. The county seat, Media, was incorporated in 1850.
