Clearfield, PAClearfield County was formed on March 26, 1804 out of Huntingdon and Lycoming counties. Early travelers found "clear fields" in the area, which inspired the name. Despite its notable fields, the County was an important center for logging and rafting on the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in the second half of the 19th century. The county seat, Clearfield, was incorporated in 1840.
