State College, PACentre County, PA was formed on February 13, 1800 from Huntingdon, Mifflin, Lycoming and Northumberland counties. It was named for its central location within the state. State College, its largest town, is the home of the main campus of the The Pennsylvania State University. Bellefonte, the county seat, was founded in 1795 and was the birthplace of five Pennsylvania governors.
