Cambria County, Pennsylvania was formed on March 26, 1804 out of Huntingdon and Somerset counties.  Its name, dating from Roman Britain, means "Wales."  Ebensburg, the county seat, was incorporated 1825.  Its largest city, Johnstown, was devastated in May 1889 when the South Fork Dam failed; more than 2,200 people died.
