Farewell Messrs. Palmer and Peterson?

As a product of Catholic education in the 50s and 60s, I was taught the Palmer Method of handwriting.  It is a beautiful thing to see, and to this day I get compliments on my handwriting.  My husband was taught the P.O. Peterson Method of handwriting, which is equally beautiful.

Do you realize that in most elementary schools today handwriting is not a subject?!  The poor teachers try to squeeze it in between leaving no child behind, but . . . it is DOA.  Witness some millenials' handwriting.  Typically it is a hybrid of printing, and most of them don't even have a "signature"!

Maybe handwriting has gone the way of the dodo bird.  But this dodo still sends personal letters, as well as e-mails and text messages.  The loss of human handwriting would truly be a loss to society.
