Not just "A Dress"

Springtime means renewal, flowers, and school ending.  My students, in addition to heavy focus on their studies (ahem), are gearing up for their ninth grade Social, which is like a Freshmen Only semi-formal dance.  The girls have been showing me pictures of dresses and hairstyles.  It brings me back to the social I attended, which sent me to the attic.

While there, I found an album of pictures of me at several proms over the years.  By the time I was a junior in high school, I had attended several proms.  My parents had a One Dress Policy--I was only allowed to buy one dress for that year to any formal I went to.  I found pictures tonight of my favorite dress....it was pale pink, strapless (which was much more WOW-ing then than it is today) and had white brocade and clear sequins on the bodice, which just dusted the floor.  Dyed to match shoes, of course!  It was the penultimate prom dress.  I adored it.

I wore it to 3 proms that year...and that dress held up at each one.  It was dreamy.

This was the Spring of 1990.  Actually, they say a picture is worth a thousand words...

I'm not sure if anyone recognizes this guy....

Same dress different prom night.....

You can even get a glimpse of the Butt Bow on this one.

It was more than just a dress.  It fulfilled a lot of little girl dreams of getting dressed up and go all out.  It was wonderful.

Proms are here.

I went to Cracker Barrel on Saturday Night. there were several young ladies in beautiful gowns. I forgot it was that time of year. Time for Proms. As a guy I enjoyed every minute of my proms. They were a lot of fun. I liked getting dressed up. I liked polishing the car and I liked to dance. Guess I was different than most.

Jess, was my prom date for Junior and Senior year. I am the guy in the first photograph and I gotta tell you I can not believe I looked that young. Jess looked beautiful that night and was a fantastic date. Those pictures take me back. Jess and I went with a good friend of mine. One year...I believe it was our Junior year (Jess you can remember)....he (Cory) brought his date along with Jess and I. She was dressed in a not so pleasing gown and had a black eye (at least it looked like a black eye). Jess and I made fun of Cory all night long.

Those days were a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing Jess.

o my goodness

heck yeah I remember that!!!  Whoo hoo the chick with the shiner......that didn't stop Cory from thinking she was AMAZING!!  (there's more to that story too...that is not exactly rated PG!)

Those were really fun proms.....Erin was such a good date, even cutting someone's meat for her dinner when her dress didn;t allow such movement!

I hope kids today have half as much fun as we did...and are as safe as we were!

what a shiner

she had a black eye because she wouldn't listen.   just kidding...ashley and her MOM got into a fist fight about some dress related topic.  I was just glad she had all of her teeth intact.  cory g
