THE POPE PLAYS YANKEE STADIUM

There is so much history in 'the house that Ruth built'.
It's going to be a sad day when it comes tumbling down after this baseball season. I can't wait to go up in one month to see the Yanks vs the Mets ( btw..shea stadium coming down too this year ). But, what a momumental occasion today in the Bronx, that our holy father, Pope Benedict will be celebrating mass there. I am watching it right now on EWTN, which is awesome because today is Mother Angelica's 85th, the founder of EWTN.
In mid July, Billy Joel will be performing THE LAST PLAY AT SHEA, for any Mets fans ( 2 day concert sell out, fyi ). I am so glad the Curve game was cancelled today, due to rain, so I can watch the Pope reign at Yankee Stadium.

Pope John In Philly
When I lived in Philadelphia I was able to see Pope John Paul drive by in his Pope mobile. For me it was just another guy in Philadelphia that drew a big crowd. It would be years later when I realized why there was all the excitment.

From the mouth of babes....
I was just thinking about some of the kids who attended this mass at Yankee Stadium, and I came up with a whimsical short story from the view of a 4th(ish) grader, who could possibly be there, and who is a yankees fan as well.
I WILL NEVER FORGET THE DAY THE POPE PLAYED IN YANKEE STADIUM. EVEN THOUGH THE WALLS DID TUMBLE DOWN (THAT WAS AFTER HE WENT BACK TO HOME SWEET ROME) THERE WERE ANGELS IN THE OUTFIELD ON THAT SUNNY AND BREEZY SUNDAY AFTERNOON.
