Another snowy start to a day that eventually became sunny by late afternoon.  Temperatures were above freezing, but not by much.  I did not fish, but after church took a quick ride to Elk Creek and Trout Run to get a video of the conditions.

The overnight rains did not happen as forecasted. In fact only very light showers fell today from 3 p.m. until dark. Most anglers enjoyed a good day catching Steelhead. We continued to use pink egg sacs, but we talked to people who did well using all the common baits and presentations, with the exception of spoons/spinners.

At the start of the day, the streams were just fine; however, by late in the day, Walnut Creek was getting cloudy with a strong flow, upper Elk Creek was running a bit on the high side, and lower Elk Creek was muddy. Even though the streams were not ideal, we caught fish at all locations except lower Elk Creek.

The stream gauge on Brady Run started the day at 17 cubic feet per second (CFS). Currently [8:30 p.m.] it is running at 44 CFS and rising.    The forecasted temperatures for tomorrow will keep the snow melting and adding to the stream levels. The good news is that tomorrow, Saturday, should be rain free.

Today was a good day. Pink egg sacs worked best for us, but we saw several anglers doing well using green jigs. Fishing pressure was moderate to heavy, especially on upper Elk Creek. Today’s predicted rain did not happen. We got a brief shower in the morning then nothing more the remainder of the day. Melting snow melt caused the streams to rise. By the late afternoon, places on lower Elk Creek were starting to look muddy.

Tomorrow’s weather will be an issue. Rain showers [20% chance] after midnight and then an increased chance of rain for most of the day Friday with temperatures is the middle 40’s. The weather will turn colder on Saturday.

It is still winter in Erie, Pennsylvania.  The area has twelve inches of snow on the ground ,the air temperature is 31degrees, and light snow is falling.  I saw about two dozen anglers fishing upper Elk Creek.  The creek has a decent flow, but it is very clear.  I did not see any fish caught while I was watching on Elk Creek, but I did see one landed on Walnut Creek.  The weather forecast is calling for moderating temperatures and a 50 percent chance of light rain tomorrow.  The rain and snow melt will definitely affect all the streams, but only time will tell how much.  At this point, I think some runoff would help add some color to the water and that would improve the fishing.

I plan to add photos and video to this blog as the week goes on, so you are invited to bookmark this page and check back each evening.

I didn't see the need to take many pictures today as the stream conditions changed very little since yesterday.
