Hillary Clinton in Columbus, Ohio

My Mom and I went to see Hilary Clinton on Valentine's Day when she made a stop in Columbus, Ohio.

We lucked out to get the front row (standing area) due to the fact I was deaf and needed a clear visual of the sign language interpreter.

After Clinton's speech, she went around the fenced area and shook mom's hand, touched my camera, exclaimed "You're deaf!", signed our sign, and took a picture with me.  I tried to get mom in but it all happened so quick only mom's right eye got in the picture.

John Glenn, the man who walked on the moon, was also there showing his support for Hillary.

Enjoy the pictures!

Now it's our turn here in PA

With the results of this week's Democratic primary, I have a feeling we Pennsylvanians are about to become very close friends with both Hillary and Barack over the next seven weeks!

Meeting Famous People

While attending IUP, I got to meet Jane Goodall, the anthropologist who has spent her life working with chimps.  I went to her presention thinking it would be funny, because everything is funnier with a monkey.  Her stories were great.

At the meet and greet afterwards, she communicated with me by using hand signals and then gave me a banana.  I wasn't sure how to take that.

Cousin Mike

Comedy

I have to agree with Mikey, if something isn't funny, if a comic is dieing..or dying..stick a monkey on the stage and you are almost guaranteed a laugh or a chuckle. I'm sick of that geico gecko aussie mascot, and when I saw the commercial with the monkey making copies, and having no clue or care about whatever the commercial was about, I nearly checked myself into the ER, because I thought I WAS going to die. My spleen was in my lap, that's how loud I laughed.  Matter of fact, I'd vote for a monkey.  The next candidate who takes a chimp on their campaign, please let me know.

me too!

I met her at PSU...she was amazing to talk to, and as a Bio teacher it was a thrill.  I expected her ot be more dynamic though---she was really reserved and sedate.  Still fascinating though!

Gone Bananas

Haha, you are too funny.

Way To Go..

Looks like you had a great vantage point to see Hillary. So what do you think about Mrs. Clinton? What motivated you to go to the speech? That must have been a wonderful experience. I remembering see George W. Bush from a distance. It was the same experience as Paula's. Well I guess it would be we were there together. Most of my accidental run ins with famous people have been with movie stars (they always leave you disappointed). Out of the current Presidency I always thought it would be interesting to have a conversation with Condoleezza Rice.

That whole experience must have been quite enjoyable.

What an opportunity

When I was attending art school in Pittsburgh, back in the early 1990's, I got to see and hear Bill Clinton and Al Gore, in Market Square at different times and days.  The Gore thing was really interesting, because the night before was the big debate with Al, Dan Quayle and Stockdale.  That's the debate where America got to really see Al Gore for the first time, and a lot of us thought he was a cyborg.  The Terminator had more emotion than Al Gore, which I thought was funny. He had a little more emotion that day in Pittsburgh, but I think that emotion for that day was 'sleepy'.

But the highlight of the Bill Clinton speech was, when he was done speaking, a mad crowd rushed to the stage area with tons of hands extended out for him to shake. Bill reached out, and only got to shake the tip of my pointer, index finger.  I remember returning back to class, announcing to everyone that " BILL CLINTON PULLED MY FINGER ".  Who would have known, way back then, he would have pulled all of our legs...?

HILLARY BUMPER STICKER

Did you hear about the HIllary bumper stickers which said 'Run, Hillary, Run'?
Democrats put it on the back of their car, and Republicans put in on the front of theirs.

Great seats!

Wow, you and your mom were really up-close and personal! What a great experience, regardless of your politics. Did being there change your opinion one way or the other?

In my lifetime, I've almost seen two presidents in person. Once, back in the early 1980s, I was in Washington, DC. It was just a week or so before Christmas, and my friend and I had gone into the city to check out the festivities on the National Mall. As we were warming ourselves at the big fire pit near the National Christmas Tree just across from the White House, the President's helicopter came in and landed on the yard of the White House. From where we were, all we could see were President Reagan's feet, and the feet of his dog, as they stepped out of the helicopter. We watched on the news that evening and saw the "front" view of his arrival.

The other time I almost saw a President was on Sept. 11, 2002. I was at the Flight 93 Memorial in Somerset County, PA. It was pretty much the same story -- three Marine helicopters swooped in, one carrying the President. They landed a few hundred yards from the parking lot we were standing in, and, of course, exited the helicopter on the opposite side, out of my view. We did meet the weather guy who was standing there taking wind measurements and recording other data in advance of the President's appearance. The wind was a factor that day, and they thought it might be too much to land in. He had a radio, so we overhead the conversation between pilots as they approached.

Maybe one day I'll actually see a President in person without a helicopter between us.
