Quips from a Trip
Location(s)
I drove my mother & daughter to visit my sister in Manhattan this past holiday weekend. She moved there in October, and this was our first chance to get to see her and allow her to show us about town. Thought I'd share NYC from the eyes of a 5 (AND A HALF!!) year old:
SCENE 1
E: 'Will they have milk in NYC?'
me: 'of course sweetie'
we are seated at our table at a chinese restaurant. And a white milk for her please? What's that? No milk. oh boy....E: 'I told you they wouldn't have milk in NYC, Mommy'

SCENE 2
At ToysRUs Times Square, in the 2 story Barbie house, she told us:
E: 'I can't decide! there are too many Barbies...I want to look more and more and more!'
luckily, her grandmother, mom and aunt did too.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SCENE 3
The security check line to go to the Empire State Building Observatory (86th floor). me: 'Eve, take your coat off, we have to give it to the man"
E, looking so sweet and earnest: 'will i get it back?'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SCENE 4
Walking back to my sister's....E: 'Can't we just take one of those yellow cars?'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SCENE 5
After we took an express subway to Harlem, instead of a local to the Natural HIstory Museum...E: 'yay! another train ride? this is great!'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SCENE 6
Eve has a special bond with her godmother, my sister. Mymom: Eve, what was your favorite part of the trip?
E: being with Aunt Mariel.
All: awww!!!
but she meant that so genuinely. it wasn't forced, it wasn't prompted, and since i was more excited about the Empire State Bldg, it surely wasn't repeated.
As we pulled around the corner onto Lexington Avenue leaving my sister, Eve had this last quip:
'Gosh, I miss Aunt Mariel already!'

Wonderful!
Great story! It is always fun to look at a place through the eyes of a child.
What did the gys do while the ladies were in NYC? It is nice to have a connection in the city. It is helpful to have your own tour guide and place to stay the night. The last time I was in New York the tall ships were in harbour. I had an invitation to see the Brig Niagra in New York harbor. What a joy. After which we got to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
Glad to hear you had a great time!
