I Hope they Get 'em!

I was sitting at Mass this morning, in our cathedral, in downtown Altoona.  Just as the priest began to deliver his Homily, a barrage of sirens echoed in from the nearby streets.  There were so many sirens all at once, I couldn't distinguish one from another.

A little old man, sitting closeby, leaned over to me and said, " I hope they get 'em!"

I turned to him, smiled and whispered...." If that was an ambulance, I HOPE THEY GET 'EM, if that was a fire engine I HOPE THEY GET 'EM, and if that was a cop car, I HOPE THEY GET 'EM"

The old man leaned back, sighed, glanced my way again and said, "yeah, me too". Then quietly, under his breath, and I heard him as clear as day, he said 'good point'.

Our Video of the Cathedral

If you haven't seen our documentary on the cathedral, please check it out.  Erin did a bang up job with video and editing, and I served as Mr. Catholic Consultant ( joke ). I learned  a lot about our cathedral that day.  Erin has enough footage to do 2 or 3 more videos, but we still haven't received any feedback from the clergy and faculty there.

sound impact

you should see the reactions of teenagers when they hear the sirens.....a whole range of human emotion, from (morbid) curiosity, to wide eyed amazement, to skulking guilt.  I always say 'hmm, are they finally going to get ya this time?" to a student of choice as a tease.

sometimes that is no laughing matter though----12 years ago, when i started teaching at the alternative school, on my 3rd day, there was a knock at the door.  I opened it, to see my administrator, with a uniformed cop and a detective.  they asked me for a certain student, and proceeded to cuff him and take him out of school.  so sometimes there are no sirens---and the knock makes an impact.
