Halloween Pumpkins 2007

Each year at Halloween, I feel compelled to carve out insanely detailed jack o'lanterns.  What draws me to do this I don't know...it's time consuming, the tools give my hands blisters, and it's simply a lot of work.  Not to mention the pumpkins like to ooze their juices rendering transferred patterns are darn near impossible to cut out then.  It has become less enjoyable to do each year, and I have never carved the same pumpkin twice in all the years I've done this.

Perhaps I do it because parents and kids have come to expect it.  The parents seem to enjoy them more than the kids...obviously the kids are out for the candy.  Parents seem to appreciate the work that goes into these things and wish they had the time to do them.

Or it could be the old triangle face jack o'lanterns just aren't enough of a challenge.

Well, no matter what the reason, here are this year's selections.  There are currently 4, but check back by Friday, October 26, and there will be two more added.

STRIPE, from the 80's classic "Gremlins"

ANIMAL from the Muppets

Gotham's protector, BATMAN

MUMBLE, from "Happy Feet"

The Incredible Hulk

"Lightning McQueen" from the movie CARS

if it's not fun, why do it?

are you serious when you said it's not enjoyable?  they are so good, you would think you put a lot of your heart into it. why not find a hobby you really like. you must like it, cause we are going to see more on Friday.

Wow!

You are truly the Master of the Gourd!

I saw a guy on TV this morning using a saber saw and power drill to carve pumpkins. It was amazing. Seems to me this might be a good way to get more guys (dads and uncles) involved. Any chance to break out the power tools!

great job

Those are fantastic carvings. I like animal. I can see why the parents would like them. Sorry to hear It is not as enjoyable. You should try and carve Steamer from the Altoona Curve. Good story Mike
