Fall Weekend in Central Pennsylvania
I love autumn in Central Pennsylvania. The colorful leaves, the cool nights, the apple cider and the weekend rides to your favorite event. This weekend October 5-7, 2007 is also Columbus Day weekend and it gives people the opportunity to attend more of the great fall festivals and events in Central Pennsylvania. Here are just a few that I am aware of…
Farm/City Days – Since 1939, when the rotary Club in Tyrone Pennsylvania was organized, it made special efforts to establish and maintain close relationships between Tyrone Borough and the surrounding rural area. Rotary members established an event called Farmers’ Night, where the community members and the neighboring farmers got to know one another better in
a carnival atmosphere. Over the years, Farmer’s Night evolved into Rural Urban day and now Farm/City Day.
a carnival atmosphere. Over the years, Farmer’s Night evolved into Rural Urban day and now Farm/City Day.Throughout the day, the amphitheater area is full of entertainment, activity, games, and fun for all ages. Along with the crafts and displays with food vendors and the Tyrone Rotary’s famous chicken barbeque dinner.
The park has pavilions and plenty of shade trees. If you are bringing kids there is a nice little play park. Kids can fish at the reservoir. Dress in comfortable clothes Saturday is expected to be in the mid 80s.
Fall Spectacular 2007- Take a trip back to the early 1900's when steam ruled the rails. Hear the whistles blow as the train makes its way down the track where coal was once king. With its truly unique shop complex, over-100-year-old station, and early 1900's equipment, the East Broad Top Railroad is a must-see for any family or railroad enthusiast.
Excursion trains from the original Orbisonia Station in Rockhill, PA will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue through 4:00 p.m. on October 6 & 7, 2007. The East Broad Top will be using steam locomotive #15 (built 1914), diesel locomotive 55-tonner #M-7 (built 1964), gas motorcar #M-3 (built 1924), various speeder cars (built 1920's), and a handcar. The historic M-1 gas-electric car (built 1927) will make 1 trip each day.
Fall Foliage Festival - Browse and shop in over 400 craft booths lining the streets and the square in Bedford and in Fort Bedford Park. Artisans display an array of handcrafted work - pottery, woodworking, painted sweatshirts, dolls, baskets, dried flower arrangements, and wreaths. Festival favorites will all be there, including candied apples, apple cider, barbequed chicken and beef, hot sausage sandwiches, french fries, popcorn, hand dipped ice cream, apple dumplings, funnel cakes, homemade pies and candies ... all kinds of tasty treats.
Hundreds of traditionally inspired, contemporary and antique quilts are shown in this competitive showcase. The area's finest needle workers display their craftsmanship and artistry in this annual exhibition presented by the Pioneer Historical Society. Whether you're looking for that one-of-a-kind quilt for your bedroom, a decorative wall hanging, or for inspiration for your own creative work, this is a "must see" part of the festival. Held at the Bedford High School. Donation of $2.
