Pennsylvania Steelhead Association

The Pennsylvania Steelhead Association (PSA) held its annual Big Run Banquet & Fund Raiser at Shades Beach Park in Harborcreek, PA, on Saturday September 29th.  It was a perfect autumn day with bright sunshine and temperatures in the low 70’s.  A nice crowd of club officers, members, and interested public enjoyed the pig roast, trimmings, and beverages.

PSA’s non-profit mission is the growth, enhancement, and protection of the Lake Erie cold water fisheries.  To accomplish their mission, the club expands landowner cooperation in regard to public right of way to stream access, works closely with the Pennsylvania Boat and Fish Commission resource management plans, and supports the 3CU Trout Association and its goals and projects.

Saturday’s event brought together like-minded individuals for a day of fellowship, demonstrations, and fund raising.  In addition to the cash prizes available in the “300 Club Raffle,” door prize tickets for equipment, apparel, outdoor art prints, etc. were available throughout the afternoon.

Mary Pfeil’s egg sac tying demonstration got plenty of attention.  She was quick and efficient and made it look easy, but we all knew better.  It takes practice.  She also told us that a five egg sac is better than a four egg sac. A five egg sac has a round shape and looks more natural when fished.   That made a lot of sense.

Glenn Mills took a few minutes to discuss the event and club activities.

By the way, Glenn talked about the tree removal.  Check out the images below.

I encourage you to support the PA Steelhead Association and other groups that work to improve Lake Erie fishing opportunities and resouces.
