History Mystery

I have read an interesting mystery about Mr. William Colgate.

The mystery is....

They have found three triangles on the side of the old Colgate Building on Pearl Street in New York City.  The triangles were made of brick and mortar.  Mr. Colgate owned the building.   He also started the American Bible Society.  They do not know how the triangles got there or why they were put there.  The building has been knocked down now but they saved the one piece with the triangles on it.  They are now studying it to find out who put them there and why.  The building was built in the early 1800's.  A lot of people have gone there to study the wall in New York City.

Some think that the triangles represent the Trinity which is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  I think that's a good possibility because Mr. Colgate was a Christian.

I think the triangles are a code for a secret open treasure or somebody was making a map to their house.  That's more fun!

What do you think?

Another thought....

Wasn't the logo for the Colgate Palmolive Co. a crescent moon and three stars?  I wonder if that has anything to do with the triangles....I've heard that the moon and stars are supposed to be satanic symbols?  Any thoughts?

Proctor and Gamble?

I think that the 13 stars and crescent moon were on Proctor and Gamble products, and the big hoooha (that's a technical term, of course!) about it back in the 1980s resulted in them removing it from their products. By the way, if I recall correctly, there was nothing to this rumor; the 13 stars were actually to represent the 13 original American colonies!

This little mystery is intriguing, isn't it?

proctor and gamble

i agree.

i am only 13 and i have been fasanated by this.

my Father said that the rumor was that proctor and gamble succeeded in having so much wealth was because they worshiped satan.

i dont belive that that is true.

i think that them thinking that they were getting wealthy by worshiping satan is actually what drew coustomers to their company.

i have had a charm looking necklace hanging in my room for some time now.

it is a moon with a face and 13 stars all attached to the moon and chain that holds the necklace together.

i have had no sign of satan or any demon possesion in my house.

my conclussion is based on yours that the 13 stars represent the 13 colonies and i think the moon represents the light guided through the dark times of history. Light given by god you see not satan.

Good analysis!

You have provided a good and thoughtful analysis of the situation, and you bring up an interesting point about the power of stories. If the story about the company's rumored satanic connection had not started, I wonder what would have happened. They made good products, but did all these stories actually make them more well known and help them to sell more, or did it turn people off and hurt their business?

We may never know.

I love a good "history mystery"!

I love this! As a matter of fact, I was so interested in your mystery that I decided to do a little "digging" around on the Web and found some pictures of the triangles.

I was also surprised to learn that Mr. Colgate was the founder of the company we know today as Colgate-Palmolive, so I guess we can thank him for our bright and shiny teeth, too! Do you think the symbols might have something to do with his soap business?

This post was a great idea!

Very interesting!

Thanks for the reply!  That  is  very  interesting!  I  LIKE  Your  Reply! How would it have something to do with soap? Maybe it's a secret recipe for soap.

The plot thickens . . .

Hmmmm. Maybe a soap recipe. Interesting. I thought it might have something to do with soap because that was Colgate's business, so I thought maybe there was a connection. But check this out . . .

I looked up Colgate University in New York, which Colgate helped to found, and learned that there is a club on campus called the Masque & Triangle. Isn't THAT interesting?! The club is for students in the theatre (acting, singing, etc.). Here's some information about the history of the university. I understand why a theater company might use a mask for its symbol, since the mask has been associated with acting for a long, long time (actors put on a "mask" when they become a character that they're playing). But a triangle? That's got me stumped.

Any ideas?

COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I Saw The Pictures. A Theatre? Never Thought of That?

History Mystery Comment

Was it before or after a war? I think it may be a safe place. Or maybe it is just  the architects just having fun. Good first blog!
